Spain Begins Training Camp Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup
First Training Sessions in Madrid
One of the top favorites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially beginning its preparations. The Spain National Team will start its training camp this Saturday ahead of the tournament, while an open practice session will take place on Sunday in Madrid, where thousands of fans are expected to support the reigning European champions before their trip to the World Cup.
Players called up by head coach Luis de la Fuente are scheduled to report this Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, where the training camp will officially begin along with the team’s first activities. The first formal training session will take place on Sunday, although the full squad will not yet be available.
La Roja is still waiting for several players who will compete in the UEFA Champions League final this Saturday. Martín Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Fabián Ruiz and David Raya will join the national team later due to their European club commitments.
Those players are expected to reunite with the squad on June 4 before the trip to the United States, where Spain will play its first warm-up match against Iraq. They could also see minutes in the final friendly against Peru, scheduled to take place in Mexico just days before the start of the World Cup.
The Situation Around Lamine Yamal
Another major storyline surrounding the Spanish camp is the physical condition of Lamine Yamal. The young FC Barcelona star will report to camp this Saturday, but he is expected to work separately from the group as he continues recovering from the injury he suffered at the end of the season.
The coaching staff does not want to take unnecessary risks with one of its biggest stars, and the plan is to gradually ease him back in order to have him fully fit for the group stage. Inside the squad, there is confidence that he could be available at least for the third group-stage match against Saudi Arabia on June 21 in Atlanta.

One of the Main Title Contenders
Spain enters the World Cup with one of the most complete and talented rosters in the entire tournament. The combination of youth, experience, and the playing style built by Luis de la Fuente makes La Roja one of the strongest contenders for the title.
The road toward chasing the second World Cup trophy in the history of Spain has officially begun. And in Madrid, the excitement is already growing.
