Pulisic headlines Pochettino's USMNT squad for the World Cup
Mauricio Pochettino has made some big decisions in his United States World Cup squad, with Diego Luna a surprise omission.
Mauricio Pochettino has named his United States squad for this summer's World Cup, with Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie the headline players picked.
Pochettino has also selected the likes of Tim Weah, Haji Wright and Chris Richards, but there was no space for Real Salt Lake's Diego Luna or Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann.
Overall, 13 players that helped the USMNT reach the last 16 in Qatar four years ago are included, while the rest are playing in FIFA's flagship tournament for the very first time.
For the first time in the modern era, every player in the USMNT World Cup squad players for a club in the top flight in their country (based on the team's league next season).
Pulisic is the standout name for the United States and comes into the tournament having scored 10 goals and provided four assists in all competitions this season for AC Milan.
Bournemouth's Adams is also rewarded for an outstanding individual campaign for the Cherries, who secured Europa League football on the final day of the Premier League.
McKennie has also shone for Juventus this term. His 15 goal involvements (nine goals, six assists) were a total only bettered by Kenan Yildiz (24) for the Bianconeri in 2025-26.
The surprise omission is that of Luna, who broke into the side under Pochettino 16 months ago and produced a string of impressive attacking displays in last year's Gold Cup.
Instead, Gio Reyna was included despite playing just 137 minutes of football across eight appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach since the start of 2026.
Coventry City's Wright and Monaco's Folarin Balogun make up a strong attack for Pochettino, who is aiming to take the USA beyond the last 16 for the first time since 2002.
And he has tried to mix youth with experience. His 26-man squad has an average age of 26 years and 332 days, the fifth-youngest the United States have sent to a World Cup.
The United States begin their Group D campaign against Paraguay on June 12 before facing Australia a week later in Seattle. They round out their first-stage fixtures against Turkiye at SoFi Stadium on June 25.
