Player to watch
All eyes will once again be on Sadio Mané. The Senegalese legend remains the country’s biggest football icon and the emotional leader of a national team dreaming of competing once again with the best in the world.
After years of shining in Europe and establishing himself as one of the greatest African footballers of his generation, the Al Nassr forward will look to guide Senegal toward another historic World Cup campaign.
Assane Diao and Lamine Camara lead the new generation
Beyond Mané, Senegal will also count on an extremely talented young generation led by names such as Assane Diao and Lamine Camara.
Diao, in particular, arrives as one of the most intriguing players in the entire squad. The Como attacker, who represented Spain at youth level, ultimately chose Senegal and now looks set to become one of the team’s main attacking weapons.
Ibrahim Mbaye emerges as one of the surprises
Another name that caught attention in the squad announcement was Ibrahim Mbaye, the young PSG prospect who continues to rise within French football.
Senegal will also rely on experienced international players such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Pape Matar Sarr, and Nicolas Jackson, giving the African side one of the deepest squads on the continent.
Senegal will participate in the fourth World Cup in its history after previously appearing in the 2002, 2018, and 2022 editions.
With a squad full of talent and international experience, the Lions of Teranga head into the 2026 World Cup convinced they can once again compete seriously against football’s biggest powers.
