The Italian Football Federation has officially appointed Paolo Maldini as Technical Director and President of Club Italia. The legendary defender will work alongside Leonardo to reshape Italy's football project ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially named Paolo Maldini as its new Technical Director and President of Club Italia, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Italian football.
The announcement was made by FIGC president Giovanni Malagò, who revealed that Maldini accepted the position after several days of discussions. The former AC Milan captain will work closely with Brazilian football executive Leonardo, who has been appointed as an advisor to the project.
The newly created Technical Director role is designed to oversee the development of Italian football at every level, including the senior national team and the youth system. One of Maldini's first responsibilities will be helping select Italy's next head coach, a decision that will be made jointly with Malagò and Leonardo.
According to the federation president, Maldini was always the preferred candidate to lead the project thanks to his leadership, football knowledge, and international reputation. The initiative is part of a long-term four-year plan aimed at rebuilding the Azzurri and preparing the national team for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, while also targeting success at the upcoming UEFA European Championship.
Maldini's appointment brings one of the greatest icons in Italian football history back into a leadership role. After an illustrious playing career and successful executive experience, expectations are high that he can help restore Italy to the top of the international game and guide the next generation of Azzurri stars.
