World Cup champion Luis de la Fuente has received the backing of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to continue his project through the 2030 World Cup.
The renewal comes just two months after Spain won their second World Cup, defeating Argentina in the final. Under the new agreement, De la Fuente will lead Spain at the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Spain will co-host alongside Portugal and Morocco, as well as at UEFA Euro 2032.
De la Fuente Leads a World Champion Spain
Since taking charge in December 2022, Luis de la Fuente has overseen one of the most successful periods in the recent history of the Spanish national team.
Under his leadership, Spain won the 2023 UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The World Cup triumph capped a remarkable process that began when De la Fuente took over La Roja and helped return Spain to the top of international football. During his tenure, the national team has also maintained a high level of competitive consistency, including a lengthy unbeaten run in official matches.
De la Fuente's career with Spain's national teams began long before he took charge of the senior side. The coach spent several years working with the RFEF's youth teams, winning European titles and a gold medal at the Mediterranean Games, as well as an Olympic silver medal.
World Cup 2030 and Euro 2032: Spain's Next Challenges
The new contract puts Luis de la Fuente in charge for two major international tournaments. The first will be the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
The next major challenge will be UEFA Euro 2032, another tournament in which the RFEF will expect Spain to remain among the leading teams in international football.
The decision to extend De la Fuente's contract represents the federation's commitment to continuity after a project that has already delivered three major international titles in just a few years.
Meanwhile, the RFEF's board also approved the contract extension of Jesús Velasco as Spain's senior futsal head coach through 2029. Velasco has held the position since November 2024 and guided Spain to the European Championship title in February.
