Carlo Ancelotti insisted Neymar remains a key part of his World Cup plans despite ongoing fitness concerns surrounding Brazil's all-time top goalscorer. 

Neymar was included in Brazil's 26-man squad for the World Cup, despite having not played for his country since October 2023 after struggling with injuries. 

The 34-year-old was still selected despite sustaining an issue for club side Santos on May 17, which resulted in him missing three games. 

Brazil's team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, confirmed Neymar could miss up to three weeks of action, thus ruling him out of their upcoming friendlies with Panama and Egypt. 

However, Ancelotti said that despite concerns about Neymar's fitness ahead of the World Cup, that he would not be making any changes to his roster before the tournament starts. 

"We expect Neymar for the first World Cup game against Morocco," Ancelotti said. "If he cannot make it, we will wait for the second game.

"We are not changing anyone. The players chosen are these 26, and these 26 will play in the World Cup."

Brazil begin their Group C campaign against Morocco on June 13 before they take on Haiti and Scotland as they look to reach the knockout stages once again. 

Neymar was a surprise inclusion in Ancelotti's ranks, with the Brazil boss choosing him over Joao Pedro, who had a fine first season with Chelsea.

In what will be his fourth World Cup, Neymar has scored eight goals and provided three assists in his 13 matches at FIFA's flagship tournament. 

Only Ronaldo Nazario (19), Pele (18) and Jairzinho (12) have directly contributed to more goals in the finals for Brazil.

Ancelotti revealed he held individual meetings with Neymar to discuss tactical expectations, and he believes the forward is mentally prepared for the challenge ahead.

"Neymar understood very well the role he has to play in this World Cup. Every day he is doing very well. He is working very well to recover as soon as possible," Ancelotti added.

"He is in a good environment, but the important thing for him is to clearly understand his role, and I think he has understood it very well."
