Morocco Hopeful Ismael Saibari Will Be Fit for France Showdown
Morocco is hoping star forward Ismael Saibari can recover in time for its World Cup quarterfinal against France after medical tests ruled out a serious hamstring injury, though his availability remains uncertain.
Morocco is anxiously awaiting the fitness of Ismael Saibari ahead of its FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal clash against France. The in-form forward is recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during the Round of 16 victory over Canada, and his availability remains uncertain.
Saibari left the match in the 22nd minute after pulling up with discomfort in his hamstring, leaving the field in tears and raising fears that his World Cup could be over.
Fortunately for Morocco, medical examinations ruled out a serious injury, while a second MRI showed encouraging progress. The Bayern Munich-bound attacker is expected to test his fitness during training before the coaching staff makes a final decision.
The 24-year-old has been one of Morocco's standout performers throughout the tournament, scoring three goals in the group stage and emerging as the team's primary attacking threat. His outstanding performances also earned him a recent move to Bayern Munich in a deal reportedly worth €55 million.
His absence would leave a significant gap in Morocco's attack, as the team has struggled to find another striker capable of matching his production. Ayoub El Kaabi and Abderrazak Hamdallah have not consistently filled that role, making Saibari's recovery even more important.
Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has repeatedly stated that he will only start players who are fully fit, meaning the final decision on Saibari's participation could come just hours before kickoff against France.
