Messi Surprised the Argentina National Team With This Gift After the World Cup
Although the ending of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was heartbreaking for Argentina, Lionel Messi's legacy was once again reflected in a gesture that went largely unnoticed during the tournament but has now begun making the rounds on social media.
The captain of La Albiceleste, who appears to have played in what was likely his final World Cup, wanted to say goodbye to his teammates with a very special gift following the defeat against Spain in the final in New Jersey.
The story was revealed by Kelci Rose Bowers, the partner of defender Marcos Senesi, who showcased the present that Messi personally gave to every member of the national team.
The Gift That Surprised Everyone
Through her social media accounts, Kelci Rose Bowers shared a video showing the gift Marcos Senesi received after the World Cup.
Inside the package was a backpack containing a mate thermos and all the accessories needed to prepare Argentina's most iconic traditional drink.
"Marcos gave it to me to bring safely back to Miami. It's such an amazing gift," the defender's partner said in the video, which quickly began circulating among football fans.
Beyond its material value, the gift was widely seen as another example of the leadership Lionel Messi has displayed throughout his years with the Argentina National Team.
A World Cup to Remember
Although Argentina fell to Spain in the World Cup final and was unable to defend its title, the tournament once again highlighted Messi's importance to the team.
At 39 years old, the Argentine captain remained one of the standout players of the competition. His two assists in the semifinal against England were instrumental in sending La Albiceleste to the championship match.
But his influence extended far beyond the statistics.
Teammates, coaches, and much of the international media praised the Rosario native's leadership throughout the tournament, both on and off the pitch.
A Leader Until the Very End
The gift he gave each of his teammates only reinforced that image.
Over more than two decades with the Argentina National Team, Lionel Messi built a special bond with every generation that shared the locker room with him, becoming the unquestioned leader of Argentine football.
Although he has not officially announced his international retirement, everything suggests that the 2026 FIFA World Cup final may have been the final chapter of an unforgettable career wearing the Albiceleste shirt.
And if that truly was his farewell, Messi chose to leave the way he always led: by setting the example and leaving behind a memory that his teammates will cherish far beyond trophies and results.
