McTominay Honored With Special Scottish £20 Note
The Bank of Scotland unveiled a limited-edition banknote inspired by McTominay’s unforgettable bicycle kick against Denmark.
Scott McTominay’s legendary status in Scottish football has reached another level. The midfielder will feature on a special limited-edition £20 note created by the Bank of Scotland to celebrate the national team’s historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The tribute comes after Scotland secured its first World Cup appearance since 1998, ending a painful 28-year absence and sparking celebrations across the country.
The banknote’s design is inspired by one of the defining moments of Scotland’s qualifying campaign: McTominay’s spectacular bicycle kick against Denmark at Hampden Park. That stunning goal helped Scotland earn a memorable 4-2 victory and secure their place at the World Cup.
According to the BBC, the note combines traditional Scottish currency aesthetics with modern football-inspired elements celebrating the national team’s achievement. The former Manchester United player appears as the centerpiece of the commemorative design.
McTominay expressed pride and emotion after seeing the tribute unveiled. “Reaching the biggest stage in world football is every player’s dream. Seeing that goal featured on a Scottish banknote feels incredibly special,” the midfielder said.
The Bank of Scotland confirmed that only 100 copies of the limited-edition note will be produced, instantly turning them into highly valuable collector’s items. Some will be distributed through auctions, raffles, and special fan events in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Beyond football, the campaign also carries a charitable purpose. Funds raised through the initiative will support Crisis Scotland, an organization dedicated to fighting homelessness across the country.
