Luis de la Fuente Confirms Gavi in the Final List for Spain for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada
The Spanish coach confirmed that Gavi, after overcoming two serious injuries, will be a key player for La Roja on the road to the 2026 World Cup.
There are no doubts about Gavi, nor about the list.
Luis de la Fuente cleared up the uncertainties about Spain's call-up for the World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The coach revealed that Gavi will be in the final list of 26 players, a decision that confirms the trust in the young Barcelona midfielder after overcoming two serious injuries.
The announcement was made on El Camino de Mario, Mario Suárez's channel, where the coach made it clear that the roster is already closed: "The list, which I already have, is decided." De la Fuente insisted that it is not only about sports performance, but also about maintaining the philosophy and group model that has been consolidated in recent months.
De la Fuente is clear about whom to call up.
One of the most concrete points was the goalkeeping. "The idea we have is to call up 26 players. And out of those 26, there will be 3 goalkeepers. I would love to take the 5 or 6 who have been with us, but only 3 will go. Three goalkeepers will go, not four," he explained firmly.
Regarding Gavi, the coach was categorical: "It's not because we gave him anything. He has earned it. And he has earned it after two serious injuries, overcoming challenges, effort, and a lot of hard work. Now life and football are giving back everything he has put on the grill. He is in a very good moment, very important for him, and with a lot of confidence."

Gavi's recovery and a last-minute addition
De la Fuente recalled how tough it was to go thru the player's first injury and how his absence highlighted the importance he has in the team. Today, with renewed energy, Gavi becomes a symbol of resilience and a key player for La Roja.
The coach also left the possibility of including a surprise open: "Is there going to be a player who has never been before? It's possible. The idea we have is to call up 26, and then, if we need a specific profile, they will come. But the list will be of 26.
With this confirmation, Spain is preparing to face a World Cup with the hope of being a protagonist again, supported by the youth and character of players like Gavi.
