Lionel Scaloni Calls for Calm Over Messi’s Injury Before the 2026 World Cup
The Argentine coach asked for calm after Messi's exit in the MLS and assured that the initial news about his injury is not that serious.
The news is not as bad as expected.
Lionel Scaloni chose to convey calm amid the concern caused by Lionel Messi's exit last weekend in the MLS. The coach of the Argentinian National Team assured that "the first news is not so bad" regarding the physical condition of the captain, who experienced discomfort in his left hamstring during the match.
How did Lionel Messi get injured?
The episode raised alarms when Lionel Messi asked to be substituted in the Inter Miami match, bringing his hand to his thigh. The club reported on Monday that it was a "strain associated with muscle fatigue in the left hamstring." Guillermo Hoyos, Inter Miami's coach, explained after the match that the star "was very tired, the field was heavy, and when in doubt, the normal thing is not to take risks." That decision to substitute him was supported by Lionel Scaloni, who followed the match from the Federation's offices: "We thought it was perfect that he did it," said the coach.
Will he make it to the World Cup?
The expectations now lie in the medical tests and daily progress. With the World Cup on the horizon, every detail about Messi is magnified. Scaloni chose prudence, but made it clear that, at least for now, the situation is not as serious as feared. "We would have preferred if nothing had happened to him. Now we have to wait, see how he evolves, and above all, the results of the additional tests they will perform, I suppose, to confirm if it really is what they say," he explained in a conversation with DSports.
