Green Light! Bedel Embolo Receives the Visa to Join the Swiss National Team
Embolo clears up the doubts the Swiss forward received the visa and joins the team in San Diego.
Breel Embolo will be able to travel to the United States
Breel Embolo's saga came to an end with a positive outcome for the Swiss national team. After several days of uncertainty, the striker received authorization to travel to the United States and join the team camp in San Diego, where the team is preparing to play in the 2026 World Cup.
The delay and complication
On Tuesday, while his teammates were leaving for California, Embolo had to stay in Switzerland because his ESTA authorization was subjected to a last-minute review. The delay caused concern among the coaching staff, as he is one of the most important strikers on the Swiss team.
The situation became even more complicated when the U.S. authorities requested additional checks. The player went to the U.S. Embassy in Bern on Wednesday, where documents related to legal proceedings for an altercation that occurred in Basel in 2018 were reviewed. In addition, the file for a 2023 conviction for threats, with a suspended fine that has already become final, was requested. Although both cases were resolved, the additional scrutiny delayed the visa approval.

He will soon join the squad
Finally, the Swiss Football Federation confirmed the good news: “Breel Embolo's visa has been approved. He will be able to travel to the United States. He is expected to join the team on Friday afternoon.” With this announcement, the uncertainty is cleared up, and coach Murat Yakin will be able to count on the striker in the final stretch of preparation
