Germany Still Waiting for Neuer
Manuel Neuer will miss another friendly match as Germany carefully manages his recovery ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The Germany continues to closely monitor the fitness of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The Bayern Munich star will also miss the upcoming friendly against the United States, leaving questions about his readiness for the start of the 2026 World Cup.
Neuer, who returned to international duty after previously stepping away following the European Championship, has been dealing with a calf problem that has limited his participation in team activities. After sitting out the match against Finland, he has once again been unable to train fully with the rest of the squad.
Reports from Germany's training camp indicate that the goalkeeper has been following an individualized recovery program. While fellow keepers Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel have continued their normal preparations, Neuer has focused on separate fitness work designed to gradually increase his workload.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann had initially hoped the Bayern veteran would be available against the United States. However, with the World Cup rapidly approaching, the coaching staff decided not to take unnecessary risks with one of the team's most experienced players.
As a result, Baumann is expected to start Germany's final warm-up match before the opening World Cup fixture against Curaçao on June 14. Germany remains optimistic that Neuer will be fully fit for the group stage, but his lack of recent match action continues to generate concern. With the tournament just days away, the focus remains on ensuring the legendary goalkeeper reaches peak condition when it matters most.
