Rudi Garcia will leave his role as Belgium head coach when his contract runs out at the end of July.

Garcia led Belgium to the quarter-finals at this year's World Cup, being knocked out by eventual winners Spain after a 2-1 loss.

The Red Devils started the tournament with two consecutive draws, but finished top of Group G thanks to a thumping 5-1 win over New Zealand.

They then secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Senegal in the round-of-32 and beat the United States in the following match before losing out to Spain.

Belgium were, however, the only team to score past Spain at the finals thanks to Charles De Ketelaere.

However, Belgium have opted to part ways with Garcia at the end of his contract, instead of renewing the Frenchman's deal.

"After discussions with the RBFA, we have decided not to extend the excellent journey we have shared over the past 18 months," Garcia said.

"I leave Belgium in League A of the UEFA Nations League and among the top eight teams in the world.

"I would like to thank my outstanding group of players, Sports Director Vincent Mannaert, and the fans who supported us throughout this World Cup.

"I wish Belgium every success as they continue the generational transition that I was proud to help initiate."

Garcia took over in January 2025, replacing Domenico Tedesco, with his first job being to oversee Belgium's Nations League promotion/relegation play-off.

Though they lost the first leg 3-1 to Ukraine, they won the second 3-0 to ensure they stayed in League A.

He took charge of 20 games in total, recording 12 wins (D6 L2), to finish with a 60% win rate.

But it was another frustrating World Cup run for Belgium. Excluding the third-place play-off match, they have now been eliminated from each of their last four World Cup knockout-stage ties against fellow UEFA nations, since beating Spain on penalties at the quarter-final stage of the 1986 tournament.
