England Set Friendly Rivals Ahead of the World Cup
The England national team has announced the opponents it will face as part of its preparation ahead of the World Cup. The “Three Lions” will play their final matches on North American soil, where they will also face Costa Rica in the closing stage of their buildup.
The team led by Thomas Tuchel will play its first match on June 6 in Tampa against New Zealand, followed by a second game on June 10 in Orlando against Costa Rica. Both matches will be played with the final squad that will compete in the World Cup, allowing the coaching staff to assess which players are in the best form ahead of the opening match against Croatia on June 17.
Final Adjustments Before the Tournament
The match against the “All Whites” will mainly serve as a tuning and adjustment test. England will not face teams with similar characteristics to Oceania sides during the World Cup, so this game will give Thomas Tuchel an opportunity to evaluate his squad against a competitive opponent that will also be part of the tournament.
For New Zealand, however, the fixture carries greater importance. Facing a powerhouse like England will allow them to measure their level, especially considering they will close their group stage against Belgium. This will be their only warm-up match, making it a key opportunity to assess their competitiveness.
A Key Opponent to Simulate Panama’s Style
The second match for England responds to the need to face a team with characteristics similar to Panama, their third group-stage opponent on June 27. Although Costa Rica will not participate in the World Cup, they will field their strongest players, giving Thomas Tuchel a closer reference of what they might encounter against the Panamanian side.
England already have previous experience against Panama, having faced them in Russia 2018, where they secured a commanding 6–1 victory. That match went down in history for the Panamanians, as it marked their first-ever goal in a World Cup, despite the heavy defeat.
The current Panamanian generation is different from 2018, although it still maintains certain characteristics, especially in attack. That is precisely what Thomas Tuchel will look to analyze in the match against Costa Rica, a team that shares offensive similarities and is now coached by Fernando Batista, following the departure of Miguel Herrera.

England Under Pressure Ahead of the Tournament
The England national team arrives under pressure. Following the most recent international break, the team was heavily criticized after drawing against Uruguay and losing to Japan at Wembley. Doubts remain about their overall performance, making these upcoming matches crucial to rebuild confidence and ease concerns among a fanbase that is currently dissatisfied with the team’s form.
