England entering World Cup with their best-ever squad, says Kane
England are the Opta supercomputer's third favourites for the World Cup, and Harry Kane thinks the Three Lions have their best-ever squad.
Harry Kane believes England have never had a better squad than the one they will take to the World Cup, as they look to end a 60-year wait to lift the trophy.
Thomas Tuchel will take charge of the Three Lions at his first major tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with his team drawn into Group L.
They open their campaign against Croatia on June 17, in Dallas, before taking on Ghana in Foxborough and Panama in New York.
The Opta supercomputer assigns England an 11% chance of winning the World Cup, making them third favourites behind European champions Spain (16%) and France (13%).
Tuchel will become the third non-Englishman to lead the Three Lions at a World Cup after Sven-Goran Eriksson (2002, 2006) and Fabio Capello (2010), and, alongside Brazil's Carlo Ancelotti, he could achieve a rare feat among managers.
Either Tuchel or Ancelotti could follow in the footsteps of Marcelo Lippi and Vicente del Bosque by winning both the Champions League and the World Cup.
And captain Kane, speaking to the Press Association, said Tuchel has all the tools at his disposal.
"I think our squad is as good as we've ever had," he said. "I think when you look at the starting XI, you look at the players coming off the bench, we're going into the tournament as one of the favourites.
"We've been building together as a team over the past few camps under Thomas. I think we've set the standard, and now we look forward to continuing this into the World Cup next month.
"There's always something special about playing at the World Cup. There's a special feeling inside, especially when you win.
"We know how much a World Cup win would mean, not just to us, but to the fans and the country itself.
"That's what drives us on the pitch, and hopefully we can bring it home for the fans."
Kane needs three goals at this year's tournament to surpass Gary Lineker (10) and become England's all-time leading scorer at World Cups, having netted six times at Russia 2018 and twice at Qatar 2022.
"Gary was an incredible striker for England, and to achieve 10 World Cup goals is impressive," Kane added.
"Personal milestones are, of course, a motivator. As a striker, I always want to score every time I step on to the pitch, and those milestones are always nice things to achieve.
"But the ultimate motivation is playing with the boys and winning matches. If I score those goals to pass Gary's record, it means I'm helping the team win, and that's the perfect scenario."
England will face New Zealand and Costa Rica in pre-tournament friendlies on June 6 and June 10, with Tuchel announcing his squad on Friday.
