Egypt Sends a Strong Message Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026 Clash Against Argentina
A member of Egypt's coaching staff made it clear the Pharaohs are not intimidated by Lionel Messi and expressed full confidence in the team's ability ahead of the Round of 32.
Ibrahim Hassan sets the tone before Argentina showdown
The buildup to the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match between Argentina and Egypt intensified after comments made by Ibrahim Hassan, assistant coach of the African side.
Working alongside head coach Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim expressed confidence in his team's chances against the reigning world champions and delivered remarks that quickly spread across social media and international football outlets.
Speaking to Egyptian television channel Sada Al-Balad, Hassan emphasized that Egypt is approaching the match focused on its own strengths rather than on Lionel Messi.
"They have Messi, we have Salah"
When asked about facing Argentina's captain, Ibrahim Hassan delivered one of the most talked-about quotes of the tournament.
The assistant coach explained that Egypt's players are concentrating on their own performance and highlighted the leadership of Mohamed Salah along with the collective belief inside the squad.
Among his remarks, one statement stood out in particular, as he said Argentina has Messi, while Egypt has Salah and "26 Messis," reflecting the confidence he believes exists throughout the Egyptian camp.

Egypt is enjoying its best World Cup campaign
Regardless of the pre-match comments, Egypt enters the knockout stage backed by the most successful World Cup run in the nation's history.
The Pharaohs advanced beyond the group stage for the first time after finishing second in their group before eliminating Australia to reach the Round of 32.
Those results have strengthened the team's belief that it can compete with some of the world's top national teams.
Salah leads Egypt's World Cup dream
Ibrahim Hassan also praised Mohamed Salah, who recovered from injury in time to play a key role during the knockout stage after fitness concerns earlier in the tournament.
The assistant coach highlighted Hossam Hassan's tactical preparation and said the players have embraced the challenge of facing one of the favorites to win the World Cup.
Argentina and Egypt will meet on July 7 in Atlanta, with a place in the quarterfinals on the line and a match that already promises plenty of intrigue long before kickoff.
