Dibu Martinez Trains Injured With One Hand and Without Gloves on the Way to the 2026 World Cup
The Argentine goalkeeper trains with his hand bandaged and adapted exercises, determined to make it to the World Cup debut against Algeria
The Argentine national team and Dibu
The Argentine national team is entering the final stretch of its preparation for the World Cup with an image that reflects both concern and hope. Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez, the starting goalkeeper and undisputed leader, is training despite his left-hand injury
Dibu's injury and his training during the team camp
The Mar del Plata native suffered a fracture in two fingers during the warm-up prior to the Europa League final, a match he still played the full 90 minutes just 15 days ago and which ended with a title for his team. Since then, he has continued with his hand bandaged and his fingers immobilized, but he has not stopped participating in the Albiceleste's practices. He does so in an unconventional way, without gloves and using only his left hand, in addition to foot exercises to maintain physical continuity.
The coaching staff designed a specific recovery plan that keeps him out of the preliminary friendlies against Honduras and Iceland, with the aim of getting him in shape for the debut against Algeria on June 16. The decision aims to protect a player considered vital to Lionel Scaloni's team, especially because of his ability to perform under maximum pressure
Dibu's comment on social media
Martínez, aware of the expectations generated by his physical condition, tried to convey calm as he left the hotel where the national team is staying. "Very well, I'm here, I'm here," he told reporters. He also left an emotional message on social media: "Very excited, sad that I can't do everything, but happy to be with friends and united for a country."
Dibu's importance to the national team
Dibu's situation became one of the central issues in Argentina's preparations. His figure, decisive in Qatar and a symbol of competitive spirit, is closely followed by Argentine fans and specialists. The image of the goalkeeper training with one hand is a testament to Dibu's attitude and that of an entire country hoping for his speedy recover.
