Carlo Ancelotti Confirms Raphinha’s Return and Changes Brazil’s Outlook Against Norway
Brazil received a major boost ahead of its clash with Norway. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Raphinha has recovered and could see minutes, giving the Seleção another attacking option in a crucial World Cup 2026 knockout match.
Ancelotti Confirms Raphinha’s Return
The buildup to the highly anticipated Brazil vs Norway showdown delivered news few expected. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Raphinha is available once again and could feature if the match demands it, completing a recovery that arrived much sooner than anticipated.
According to the Italian manager during his press conference at MetLife Stadium, the Brazilian winger has made outstanding progress since suffering his injury during the group stage and is now ready to contribute, even if he has not yet reached full fitness.
"Raphinha has improved a lot. He isn't at 100 percent yet, but he can play a few minutes and help the team," Ancelotti explained while emphasizing how valuable the Barcelona forward remains to Brazil.
The announcement gives the Seleção a significant boost ahead of one of its toughest tests of the tournament against a Norway side led by Erling Haaland, a team that will force Brazil to maximize every attacking option available.
A Remarkable Recovery That Surprised Everyone
Just a few days ago, Raphinha's return seemed highly unlikely. The winger suffered a Grade 1 injury during Brazil's match against Haiti on June 21, forcing the coaching staff to rethink its attacking plans.
Instead, the Brazilian committed himself to an intensive rehabilitation program that included three treatment sessions per day with the national team's medical staff. He even remained at Brazil's training base in New York while the squad traveled for matches in other cities, allowing him to focus entirely on his recovery.
The effort paid off. Raphinha missed only two matches before rejoining full training this week, convincing Ancelotti that he was ready to be included in the squad once again.
Everything suggests that Raphinha will begin the match on the bench, but his pace and ability to break down defenses could become a decisive weapon as the game unfolds.
Brazil Gains More Firepower for a High-Stakes Clash
The Italian pointed to the impact of his substitutes against Japan, highlighting how valuable fresh legs can become during knockout matches.
"Matches don't end after 90 minutes. They can go to extra time," Ancelotti said, suggesting that players such as Raphinha, Endrick, Neymar Jr., and Gabriel Martinelli could all play decisive roles.
He also praised Vinícius Jr. for his tactical growth, noting that the Real Madrid star has developed the versatility to excel in several attacking roles, making Brazil even more dangerous.
The only setback remains the absence of Lucas Paquetá, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to injury. Ancelotti confirmed he is still evaluating the best replacement within his squad.

Raphinha’s Return Could Be the Difference-Maker
Although Raphinha is not expected to start, simply having him available changes Brazil's outlook considerably.
The biggest question now is how much risk Ancelotti is willing to take. Giving Raphinha too many minutes could jeopardize his recovery for later rounds, while keeping him on the bench for too long might deny Brazil one of its most dangerous attacking weapons against Norway.
