A historic cycle for Cape Verdean football
Pedro Leitao Brito, better known as Bubista, announced his departure as coach of the Cape Verde national team after six years at the helm. The news comes immediately after the historic participation of the African team in the 2026 World Cup, where it became one of the tournament's major revelations.
The team debuted with a 0-0 draw against Spain, in a match where goalkeeper Vozinha stood out as a key player. Then, they surprised with a thrilling 2-2 against Uruguay and a solid 0-0 against Saudi Arabia. These results allowed them to reach the Round of 16, an unprecedented achievement for the island nation. There, Cape Verde bid farewell with honors after losing 3-2 in extra time to Argentina, leaving the impression that they could compete on equal footing with the powerhouses.
