Bernardo Silva’s Comment That Did Not Sit Well With Barcelona
Bernardo Silva has been linked with Barcelona during several transfer windows. However, at the moment, the Portuguese international is not among the top priorities for the team managed by Hansi Flick, mainly due to the number of players already occupying similar areas of the pitch within the Blaugrana squad.
The Statements That Caused Discomfort
In an interview with Sport, Bernardo Silva made comments that were not well received by certain sectors of the club’s board. When asked about the possibility of joining Barcelona, the midfielder replied: “Barça? It’s an option I have. The truth is that I have many options, and I’m not going to talk about one specific club if I haven’t made a decision yet.”
The Portuguese star also added a remark that reportedly created some unease within the Catalan club’s offices: “I’m going to try to be at a team where they want me and where I truly feel wanted.”
According to Sport, some Barcelona executives did not interpret those comments positively, considering that the club’s interest in Bernardo Silva has been public and consistent for several years. As a result, some members of the organization viewed the statements as unnecessary.
It is true that Barcelona has cooled its interest in the midfielder due to the internal competition in his position and, above all, because of the significant salary he currently earns. Even so, the player remained an attractive option to strengthen the squad. However, his recent comments could negatively affect any future negotiations.

Atlético Madrid Remains Interested
Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid continues to monitor his situation closely. Various Spanish media outlets have reported that contacts have already been established with the player’s representatives, as he looks to resolve his future as soon as possible in order to focus exclusively on his commitments with Portugal.
Bernardo Silva remains a highly attractive player for any elite club thanks to his quality, experience, and versatility. Nevertheless, Barcelona’s financial limitations continue to be a significant obstacle. In that context, Atlético Madrid appears to be in a stronger position to pursue a deal of this magnitude.
For now, the Portuguese midfielder’s future remains open, although he seems increasingly unlikely to join Barcelona, and his recent comments have certainly not helped bring him any closer to Camp Nou.
