Belgium’s World Cup Jersey Turns Surrealist Art Into Football Fashion
Belgium's 2026 FIFA World Cup away jersey is inspired by René Magritte's surrealist artwork, blending football, culture, and art into one of the tournament's most unique and celebrated kit designs.
Belgium's away jersey for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has become one of the tournament's biggest talking points—not only for its bold look but also for the artistic story behind it.
Created by Adidas in collaboration with the Royal Belgian Football Association, the kit pays tribute to legendary Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte. The light blue and pink design features circular patterns inspired by Magritte's 1931 masterpiece "The Voice of Space (La voix des airs)," bringing one of Belgium's greatest artistic legacies onto the football pitch
Perhaps the most striking detail is hidden inside the collar, where the phrase "This is not a jersey" references Magritte's iconic painting "The Treachery of Images," famous for the inscription "This is not a pipe." The playful message reflects the surrealist movement's fascination with challenging perception and reality.
The jersey continues Belgium's recent tradition of celebrating national culture through football kits. Previous tournament designs honored the country's cycling heritage, the Tomorrowland music festival, and the beloved comic character Tintin. This time, Belgian surrealism takes center stage on the world's biggest football stage.
The result is a shirt that has been praised by football fans, designers, and art lovers alike, proving that World Cup kits can be much more than sportswear—they can also be works of art.
