Belgium's Possible Lineup to Face Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals
The Red Devils are looking to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament against Spain. While Rudi Garcia has most of his lineup set, two key selection decisions remain unresolved.
Belgium aims to stun one of the tournament favorites
Fresh off an impressive victory over the United States in the Round of 16, Belgium now faces arguably its toughest challenge of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Red Devils will meet Spain on Friday, July 10, at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles with a place in the semifinals at stake.
Rudi Garcia's side heads into the match full of confidence after producing one of its most complete performances of the tournament. However, Belgium now takes on a Spanish team that has yet to concede a goal in the competition.
With no major injury or suspension concerns, Garcia has most of his starting XI in place, although two positions remain up for debate.
De Bruyne headlines Belgium's biggest selection question
The main uncertainty surrounds Kevin De Bruyne, who continues to battle for a place in the starting lineup.
The veteran playmaker is competing with Hans Vanaken for a midfield spot alongside Youri Tielemans and Nicolas Raskin.
Another decision remains out wide, where Jérémy Doku and Dodi Lukebakio are competing for the final place in Belgium's attacking trio.
Meanwhile, Charles De Ketelaere and Leandro Trossard are both expected to retain their places after strong performances in the previous round.
Courtois will once again anchor Belgium's defense
One position that requires no discussion is goalkeeper. Thibaut Courtois is set to lead Belgium once again after providing stability and experience throughout the tournament.
In front of him, Timothy Castagne, Zeno Ngoy, Brandon Mechele and Maxim De Cuyper are expected to form the back four tasked with containing Spain's dangerous attack.
Stopping players such as Lamine Yamal, Álex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal will be one of Belgium's biggest challenges if it hopes to reach the final four.
Belgium's Possible Lineup vs Spain
Formation: 4-3-3
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois.
Defenders: Timothy Castagne, Zeno Ngoy, Brandon Mechele, Maxim De Cuyper.
Midfielders: Nicolas Raskin, Youri Tielemans, Kevin De Bruyne or Hans Vanaken.
Forwards: Jérémy Doku or Dodi Lukebakio, Charles De Ketelaere and Leandro Trossard.
A victory over Belgium would send Spain back to the World Cup semifinals for the first time since lifting the trophy in South Africa 2010, and De la Fuente appears ready to trust the same group that has carried La Roja this far.
