A campaign launched by Argentine fans is gaining momentum on a digital platform, calling for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain to be replayed.

The petition, published on Change.org, has already gathered more than 61,500 signatures and urges FIFA to review what happened during the match played on July 19 in New York.

Why are fans asking for the Final to be replayed?

The petition was started by supporter Gisela Sánchez, who questions the performance of Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić during the Final.

The text argues that several refereeing decisions influenced the outcome of the match and asks FIFA to review the incidents. It also alleges irregularities, although it does not provide verifiable evidence to support those claims.

Can FIFA order the World Cup Final to be replayed?

Petitions hosted on platforms such as Change.org have no regulatory authority and cannot force FIFA to alter the result of an official competition.

A match can only be replayed under exceptional circumstances established in the sport's regulations or through a ruling by the relevant governing bodies.

Similar petition emerged during the tournament

The Argentine initiative follows another online campaign launched during the 2026 World Cup.

After the semifinal between France and Spain, French fans collected more than 82,000 signatures asking for the match to be replayed over a controversial incident before the penalty that opened the scoring.

Like the Argentine petition, that campaign had no impact on the tournament's official results.

Following the Final, thousands of Argentine fans also gathered across the country to thank the national team for reaching the championship match and falling just short of defending its World Cup title.
