Ancelotti Hails Raphinha as the Best in the World
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti praised Barcelona star Raphinha after the victory over Panama, calling him the world’s best player at attacking space behind defenses.
Carlo Ancelotti has quickly identified Raphinha as one of the key figures in his Brazil squad. Following Brazil’s emphatic 6-2 victory over Panama in a World Cup warm-up match, the Italian coach reserved special praise for the FC Barcelona winger.
“Raphinha is the best player in the world at attacking depth,” Ancelotti said, highlighting the Brazilian’s ability to exploit space behind opposing defenses. The coach explained that he prefers positioning Raphinha close to the defensive line, allowing him to make dangerous runs and maximize his offensive impact.
At the Maracanã, Raphinha operated in a free role behind striker Matheus Cunha, with Vinícius Júnior and Luiz Henrique providing support on the flanks. The tactical setup enabled him to repeatedly threaten Panama’s back line.
Ancelotti also dismissed the possibility of deploying Raphinha as a central striker. Instead, he emphasized the importance of allowing the Barcelona star freedom to express his creativity and football intelligence.
“I will never tell Raphinha where he has to play when we have the ball,” Ancelotti explained, underlining the trust he places in the player’s decision-making abilities.
Raphinha’s development under Hansi Flick has transformed him into one of the most influential attacking players in world football. As the World Cup approaches, Brazil appears ready to build part of its title ambitions around the outstanding form of its Barcelona star.
