Algeria's Predicted Lineup to Face Switzerland in the FIFA World Cup 2026
Algeria secured its place in the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams after playing one of the most thrilling matches of the group stage against Austria. The African side came very close to claiming victory, but even the draw was enough to keep its World Cup dream alive.
Now, a new challenge begins. The Desert Foxes will look to write the most important chapter in their recent history. The last time Algeria advanced beyond the group stage was at Brazil 2014, when it reached the Round of 16 and came within minutes of eliminating eventual champions Germany before falling in extra time. In this edition, with an additional knockout round in the tournament's expanded format, the objective is to get past the Round of 32 and reach the final 16 teams, achieving the greatest World Cup campaign in the nation's history.
The challenge will not be easy. Standing in their way is Switzerland, which finished atop its group thanks to its tactical balance, experience, and one of the strongest defenses of the opening phase.

Algeria Analysis
Algeria has been one of the tournament's most competitive teams. The squad has shown the personality to compete on equal terms with higher-ranked opponents, relying on a compact defensive block, intense pressing, and quick transitions into attack.
The 4-2-3-1 system allows the team to maintain balance between defense and offense. Nabil Bentaleb will be responsible for providing stability in midfield, while Farès Chaïbi will supply creativity and distribution to connect with the attacking players.
The experience of Riyad Mahrez remains one of the Algerian side's greatest strengths. The captain not only brings technical quality and one-on-one ability but also leadership during the most demanding moments of the match. Alongside him, young Ibrahim Maza has emerged as one of the team's biggest revelations thanks to his mobility and ability to break defensive lines, while Houssem Aouar offers intelligent movement, late runs into the box, and composure in possession.

Up front, Amine Gouiri will serve as the team's main attacking reference. His movement inside and outside the penalty area, combined with his ability to link up with the attacking midfielders, allows him to create space for the wingers and unsettle opposing defenses.
The biggest challenge for Algeria will be breaking down the disciplined defensive structure of Switzerland, a team that has allowed very few scoring opportunities throughout the tournament. If the North Africans can reproduce the intensity they displayed against Austria, remain defensively organized, and capitalize on the quality of Mahrez and Gouiri in the final third, they will have every reason to believe they can secure a historic place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
