Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo Could Meet Only in the Final
Before the tournament began, football fans dreamed of a showdown between Lionel Messi's Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in the quarterfinals.
However, Portugal finished second in its group and moved to the opposite side of the knockout bracket.
As a result, the long-awaited clash between two of football's greatest icons can now happen only in the World Cup Final on July 19, provided both teams continue winning through every knockout round.
