Luis Díaz’s father’s viral prayer fuels belief in Colombia’s World Cup future
Faith has been a constant in the Díaz family, and once again, it was present on one of the biggest nights of Lucho’s career
It is often said that faith can move mountains. What seems impossible becomes clearer when supported by conviction, proving that even the smallest belief can help overcome challenges that appear impossible to defeat.
For Mane Díaz, faith was a significant source of strength during his 12-day captivity after being kidnapped by the ELN in October 2023, helping him remain hopeful and resilient until he was finally released.

A belief that never left
That same conviction has now allowed him to witness his son become a World Cup player. Not only that, he watched Lucho score at the legendary Azteca Stadium in front of a massive Colombian crowd and earn MVP honors after a standout performance.
Faith once again played a role in the Díaz family story before Colombia’s opening match. Mane was seen with his son’s jerseys placed on a bed while he knelt on the floor with his hands together and eyes closed in prayer for both his son and the national team. Colombia responded with a strong start, securing an important result against Fabio Cannavaro’s Uzbekistan side.
The most anticipated night of Lucho’s career did not overwhelm him. He embraced the World Cup stage in front of his family and between 60,000 and 70,000 Colombian supporters inside one of football’s most historic venues, many of them wearing his name and number on their backs.

Delivering on the biggest stage
Against a disciplined Uzbek defense, the difference came from the Colombian debutant’s determination. His quick feet and willingness to take risks matched the expectations that surrounded him entering the tournament.
And once again, faith entered the picture. His teammates trust him, and he trusts himself to take responsibility within a Colombian side that has found balance after its World Cup debut.
Not everyone believes in faith or places importance on it. But in the Díaz household, it has become an added strength that continues to deliver in some of the most important moments of their lives. As Lucho Díaz’s family continues to see that conviction reflected on football’s biggest stage.
