Will Gonzalo García Stay or Go? Getafe Insists Despite His Great Club World Cup With Real Madrid
Despite an outstanding performance in the Club World Cup, Gonzalo García place in Real Madrid first team may still be uncertain. The young forward, with four goals and one assist in five matches, has become the team’s top scorer in the tournament under Xabi Alonso. His crucial goal against Borussia Dortmund helped secure a spot in the semifinals, sparking discussions about his future at the club.
Getafe Not Giving Up on the Madrid Prospect
Gonzalo rise has caught attention not only at Real Madrid but also from several La Liga clubs. Among them, Getafe is determined to secure his signing, having previously reached a preliminary agreement with the player.
Getafe president Ángel Torres revealed on Tuesday that there was a commitment to bring the striker on board on one condition. “There was an agreement: that if he didn’t stay at Real Madrid, he would join us. It was made a month and a half ago, both with Madrid and his agent,” Torres explained. “But the way the boy is playing right now… it might not happen anymore. In football, everything changes. What’s black today could be white tomorrow,” he added.
Torres also acknowledged that Getafe interest in Gonzalo isn’t new. “We wanted him last year, and in January he was about to come, but Raúl didn’t want to dismantle his squad because they were in the relegation zone. We’ve been after this player for two years,” he admitted.
Despite the difficulties, Torres remains hopeful. “In football, anything can happen. Let’s see what happens tomorrow at the Club World Cup who plays and how he performs. Let him keep scoring goals. If he can come, great. If not, there’s nothing we can do,” he concluded.
A New Competitor for Mbappé?
Without a doubt, Gonzalo García has become a sensation in this Club World Cup. The question now is whether Xabi Alonso will keep him in the squad to challenge stars like Mbappé, or allow him to leave in search of more playing time. It’s a tough call ahead.
