Serious Injury for Jamal Musiala: Bayern Star To Undergo Surgery After Heavy Collision With Donnarumma
Jamal Musiala, the young Bayern Munich star, has suffered yet another major setback. The 22-year-old German midfielder is set to undergo surgery in the coming days after sustaining a serious injury during the Club World Cup quarterfinal clash against Paris Saint-Germain. The talented playmaker was forced off at halftime following a heavy collision with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who crashed into him while challenging for the ball just before the break.
Fibula fracture and ankle dislocation
The Bavarian club confirmed that Musiala suffered a fracture in his left fibula along with an ankle dislocation, an injury that will require immediate surgery. The player has already been flown from Orlando to Munich, where the operation will be performed.
“This serious injury and the long layoff are a real shock for Jamal and for all of us at the club,” said Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director. “Everyone knows how important Jamal is to our game. He plays a central role for us both on and off the pitch. He had just come back from injury, and now he’ll be sidelined again,” he added.
The German giants assured that Musiala will receive full support throughout his recovery. “He will get everything he needs from us. We’ll be there for him every step of the way, and we’re already looking forward to seeing him back on the pitch,” Eberl concluded.
The injury turned out to be a pivotal moment in the match, which ended in a 2–0 victory for PSG, with second-half goals from Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé — the latter paying tribute to Diogo Jota following the Portuguese player’s tragic death.
Musiala’s absence is a heavy blow for both Bayern Munich and the German national team, especially given his key role in both squads. Despite the setback, the club remains confident that their rising star will come back even stronger. The focus now shifts to his recovery and the road back to top-level football.
