Real Madrid Aim for New Season Record Against PSG
Los Blancos could match their all-time win record if they beat PSG in the Club World Cup semifinals — and have a shot at breaking it in the final.
One Win Away From Matching Historic Mark
Real Madrid is once again on the verge of making history. After playing 67 matches this season — more than in any other campaign — the Spanish giants could tie their all-time win record by defeating Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday’s Club World Cup semifinal.
So far, the club has registered 45 wins. The benchmark to match is 46 victories, achieved during the 2011–12 and 2013–14 seasons. Back in 2011–12, with José Mourinho in charge, the team won LaLiga with 100 points and scored 121 goals. In 2013–14, under Carlo Ancelotti, they lifted both the Copa del Rey and their 10th Champions League title in the famous final against Atlético de Madrid in Lisbon.
Led by Xabi Alonso, Chasing the Top Spot
This season has been a rollercoaster for Real Madrid. The team opened the year by winning the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup with Carlo Ancelotti, but now it’s Xabi Alonso who’s leading the charge in the Club World Cup.
The numbers are clear: 45 wins in 67 matches — a 67.1% win rate. However, it’s also the season with the most defeats under Ancelotti’s management, with 14 total losses. The team also recorded eight draws — seven with Ancelotti and one with Xabi Alonso in his debut against Al Hilal.
Despite the setbacks, Real Madrid have impressed in the global tournament, winning every match in the group stage, round of 16, and quarterfinals. If they can get past reigning European champions PSG, they will reach 46 wins, equaling their best-ever season. And should they also triumph in the final on July 13, they’ll set a new all-time record.
The journey has been demanding, but Real Madrid’s hunger for glory remains. Now, with a chance to etch another milestone into their legacy, all eyes turn to New Jersey for the semifinal showdown.
