Musiala Set To Miss Several Months After Fracture Against PSG: How Long Will He Be Out?
Bad news for Bayern Munich and German football: Jamal Musiala will be sidelined for an extended period after the seriousness of the injury he sustained against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarterfinals was confirmed. The 22-year-old German midfielder will need surgery after fracturing the fibula in his left leg, in addition to suffering an ankle dislocation.
The incident occurred just before halftime, when PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma accidentally collided with him during a challenge for the ball. Musiala had to be substituted immediately and flew from Orlando to Munich on Saturday, where he will undergo surgery in the coming hours.
A long-term absence ahead
Although the club has not issued an official medical report with a recovery timeline, local media cite medical experts who estimate that Musiala could be out for four to six months, depending on how well he responds after the operation. The injury is especially painful as it comes just after the player had returned from another long-term layoff.
“This injury is a very tough blow for Jamal and for all of us,” said Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, in an official statement. “He’s a key figure in our squad, and we’re all heartbroken by what’s happened. We will give him our full support throughout his recovery.”
Musiala had established himself as a cornerstone in Bayern Munich’s midfield and was also one of the standout names in the German national team, which now faces the real possibility of being without him for key upcoming international fixtures.
The match in which he suffered the injury ended with a 2–0 victory for Paris Saint-Germain, thanks to second-half goals from Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé, the latter dedicating his goal to the recently deceased footballer Diogo Jota.
With Musiala’s absence, Bayern Munich loses not only a vital player but also one of its most creative and promising young talents. The club will now focus on supporting his recovery process, hoping to see him return stronger and ready to reclaim his role at the heart of the team.
