Xabi Alonso confirms squad for his first shot at Club World Cup glory
Real Madrid officially announced their squad for the upcoming Club World Cup, where they’ll kick off against Al Hilal on June 18 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The list includes recent signings Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as ten academy players brought in to round out a deep, competitive squad.
In his first official squad as Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso has called up all available first-team players, although names like Ferland Mendy, Antonio Rüdiger, Endrick, and Eduardo Camavinga are still recovering and may struggle to be match-fit. Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão, however, are back training normally after recovering from serious knee injuries.
Two new signings and ten academy players boost the squad
Defenders Dean Huijsen — who was unveiled on Tuesday — and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will be officially presented this Thursday at 6:30 a.m. ET, are both set to travel with the team this Saturday, when they head to Miami to begin preparations on U.S. soil.
Joining them are ten youth players: goalkeepers Fran González and Sergio Mestre; left-back Youssef 'Yusi'; center-backs Diego Aguado and Jacobo Ramón; right-back Jesús Fortea; midfielders Chema Andrés and Mario Martín; and forwards Gonzalo García and Víctor Muñoz. All of them will be under Xabi Alonso’s watch during the tournament.
