Who Will PSG Face in the Club World Cup Quarterfinals After Knocking Out Messi’s Inter Miami?
After a dominant 4–0 win over Inter Miami and Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain punched their ticket to the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, where they’ll meet the winner of Flamengo vs. Bayern Munich. The reigning UEFA Champions League champs showed no mercy in the round of 16 and now await another heavyweight showdown.
Flamengo, winners of the 2023 Copa Libertadores, are unbeaten heading into the clash, having taken down Chelsea FC and Espérance de Tunis, and drawing with LAFC to top their group. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich looked strong too, racking up a historic 10–0 win over Auckland City and beating Boca Juniors, before dropping their final group match against Benfica.
Total dominance in Atlanta
In their last match, PSG made quick work of Inter Miami, cruising to a 4–0 victory at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. A first-half brace from rising star João Neves, a goal by Achraf Hakimi, and an own goal from Tomás Avilés sealed the deal early. Coach Luis Enrique’s team looked sharp and in full control.
In the second half, Luis Enrique used the comfortable lead to rotate his squad, giving Ousmane Dembélé his tournament debut after returning from a quad injury. On the other side, Inter Miami fielded their usual star-studded lineup — Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Messi — but were outclassed from start to finish.
Barcelona ties on both sides
The match had a heavy Barcelona flavor. Luis Enrique and Dembélé represented PSG’s past with the Catalan club, while Inter Miami had a Barça reunion of their own, including manager Javier Mascherano on the sidelines. Still, experience wasn’t enough to counter PSG’s firepower.
Now, PSG turns its focus to a quarterfinal showdown with either Flamengo or Bayern Munich. It’ll be another huge test — and another chance for players like João Neves to shine and for Dembélé to make his full return on the big stage.
