The Millions Lost by Boca Juniors After Being Eliminated From the Club World Cup
Boca Juniors was eliminated early from the Club World Cup this Tuesday an exit that brought not only sporting disappointment but also a significant financial setback. Falling short in the group stage cost the Argentine club millions in potential FIFA prize money.

Beyond the international prestige, advancing to the round of 16 represented a major financial opportunity for one of South America’s biggest clubs. FIFA awards $2 million for each group stage win and $1 million for a draw. Boca failed to earn any of those rewards during its campaign.
Had they advanced to the next round, the club would have secured an additional $7.5 million just for reaching the round of 16. In total, Boca stood to earn up to $10.5 million merely by qualifying for the knockout stage.
Prize Distribution – 2025 FIFA Club World Cup:
- Group stage: $2 million per win / $1 million per draw
- Round of 16: $7.5 million
- Quarterfinals: $13.1 million
- Semifinals: $21 million
- Runner-up: $30 million
- Champion: $40 million
A Painful Exit on All Fronts
Boca early exit hurts not only the club’s finances but also the tournament organizers. Known for its passionate and loyal fanbase, Boca draws large crowds and significant spending during its matches. The team elimination resulted in economic losses across the board for the club, the organizers, and, of course, the thousands of fans who hoped for a longer run in the competition.
