Simone Inzaghi Leaves Inter Milan After PSG Rout, Takes Over at Al-Hilal for Club World Cup
The devastating 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 Champions League Final marked the end of an era. Simone Inzaghi will no longer be the manager of Inter Milan, a club he led for four seasons, winning domestic titles and reaching European finals — but falling short of ultimate continental glory.
Why is Inzaghi leaving Inter?
The decision was announced on Tuesday through an official club statement:
“The paths of the club and Simone Inzaghi part ways. This is a mutual decision made after a meeting held just minutes ago.”
Despite having a contract until 2026, both parties agreed to end the cycle following the humiliating loss in Munich to PSG — a defeat that exposed tactical flaws and brought growing pressure from fans and media.
Inzaghi’s legacy at Inter
From 2021 to 2025, Inzaghi collected six official trophies:
- Serie A (2024), earning Inter their historic second star (20th league title)
- Coppa Italia in 2022 and 2023
- Supercoppa Italiana in 2021, 2022, and 2023
He also guided Inter to two Champions League finals, but lost both:
- 2023 : vs. Manchester City (1-0, Istanbul)
- 2025 : vs. PSG (5-0, Munich)
While Inzaghi restored Inter's competitiveness, the lack of a European crown ultimately defined the limitations of his tenure.

What’s next for Inzaghi?
According to reports from Italian media, Simone Inzaghi has accepted a lucrative offer of nearly €30 million per year to manage Al-Hilal — the Saudi giants who will face Real Madrid in their opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The tournament kicks off June 15 in the United States, meaning Inzaghi will have minimal time to prepare his new squad for one of the toughest challenges imaginable.
Who could replace him at Inter?
With their own Club World Cup debut approaching, Inter is in urgent need of a new head coach. Among the early candidates:
- Cesc Fàbregas , current coach of Serie B surprise Como
- Roberto De Zerbi , recently hired by Olympique de Marseille
- Cristian Chivu , former Inter defender and current manager at Parma
The club is expected to move quickly, knowing that a strong showing at the Club World Cup — and a fresh project post-Inzaghi — are essential for the next chapter in their storied history.
