Rondón Sends Warning to Real Madrid: "Now it Will Be Different"
Salomón Rondón, key striker for Pachuca, expressed confidence ahead of their clash with Real Madrid in the second matchday of the FIFA Club World Cup. Unlike the recent Intercontinental Cup final, where the Mexican side fell 3-0 to Los Blancos, the Venezuelan forward warned that this time they’ll arrive in better physical shape and with a thirst for revenge.
“We already know what it’s like to face Real Madrid, but this time we’re not as physically worn out as we were in that final. We came off two highly demanding matches and it showed. Now it will be different — it’s going to be a great spectacle,” the Venezuelan told us in an exclusive interview.
Leading Pachuca with pride
At 35 and in excellent form, Rondón has been a cornerstone of Pachuca’s recent successes. During the Clausura 2024, he was crowned top scorer, and later stood out in the Concacaf Champions Cup, where he was named MVP and top scorer. His influence has been felt both on and off the pitch.
“Since I arrived at Pachuca, everything has been special. We won the ConcaChampions, reached the Intercontinental final, and now we have another shot against a giant like Real Madrid. I’m proud to be part of this young team that’s hungry to grow,” said the former Zenit, Newcastle, and Everton forward.
A high-stakes challenge
Coached by Jaime Lozano, the Mexican side has no room for error after their 2-1 defeat against Salzburg. Another loss would eliminate them from the tournament. Still, Rondón sees this match as another chance to showcase the club’s and the region’s quality.
“This tournament means a lot. We’re representing not just Mexico and Concacaf, but also Venezuela. We know the caliber of the opponents, and that pushes us to the limit,” he added.
This Sunday, Pachuca will try to upset a Real Madrid side that was held to a draw by Al Hilal in their opener. For Rondón, the key will be showing character and making the most of their chances: “It’s time to leave everything on the pitch. We’re ready now.”
