Riquelme talks about Leandro Paredes possibly joining Boca Juniors after the Club World Cup
Juan Román Riquelme is already in Miami, supporting Boca Juniors ahead of their debut in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, and his first comments have sparked excitement among fans. The club president confirmed he wants to bring back Leandro Paredes, currently at AS Roma and a World Cup winner with Argentina. “I’m even more hopeful than I was back in January. Hopefully, after the Club World Cup, we can bring him to our club,” said Riquelme.
A serious offer to convince Paredes
Reports say Boca has already made a formal offer to the 30-year-old midfielder: a three-and-a-half-year deal, matching his current wages in Italy, and willing to pay his release clause, set at $3.5 million. Riquelme, usually reserved but clearly excited, added: “Everyone knows what it would mean to have him here. The fans love him. His return would be bigger than mine in 2007—and I don’t play anymore.”
The player hasn’t made any official statement yet, but he’s currently in Miami with his family, which could open the door for a face-to-face with Riquelme in the next few days. “He knows our doors are open. We talk often, we’ve always had a close relationship,” the club legend said, hinting that their personal bond could be key to getting the deal done.
New signings and setbacks ahead of the tournament
Riquelme also talked about the squad for the international tournament, pointing out the signings of Marco Pellegrino and Malcom Braida, but expressing disappointment over Ayrton Costa’s absence due to visa issues. “We waited until the last minute hoping he’d be able to come. He was really excited. We’re still holding onto some hope he can join us,” he said.
To wrap things up, Riquelme praised the strong fan presence in the U.S. and highlighted what this experience means to the club. “It’s a dream come true for us to be at this Club World Cup. The boys are preparing with a lot of excitement. We want to enjoy it and put in a good performance. Boca’s fans are always there—doesn’t matter where we play,” he finished with a hopeful smile.
