Maxi Rodríguez goes against PSG and puts all his trust in Atlético Madrid for the Club World Cup
In the lead up to the start of the revamped Club World Cup, Maxi Rodríguez gave an exclusive interview to beIN SPORTS, where he shared his thoughts on the tournament and the teams participating in this historic edition.

What do you expect from the start of this new format?
“There a lot of anticipation. Honestly, it’s a very good tournament. I would’ve loved to still be playing to take part in it, but I think something really special is coming. I already want the ball to start rolling"
There no doubt I would’ve liked to play in this new format, but I’ll enjoy it in a different way. Of course, I’ll be following everything that happens in each match.”
One of the main attractions of the tournament will be Inter Miami and the role Lionel Messi can play in the competition.
What your opinion on the Miami team?
“They have a good squad, but they’ll have to face teams with a different kind of competitive edge. We’ll have to see how they’re doing. As they always say, it’s one game at a time. The first goal is to get past the group stage. Once you start competing, all you want is to win.”
Despite being the host, Inter won’t have it easy. They’ll face a strong African team, hungry for glory and determined to show the world what they’re made of. The stage is set for an upset.
As a proud Argentine, Maxi also gave his take on Boca Juniors and River Plate, the two historic South American clubs looking to make their mark.
And what about the Argentine clubs?
“You have to go out and play. There’s always that doubt about whether they can compete or not, but of course they can. In the end, it’s eleven against eleven. Boca and River are clubs with a lot of history, very respected worldwide. They both have tough groups, but it all depends on what they do on the pitch.”
Despite the challenges, both Boca and River have competitive squads and high level players. Their mission is to honor the colors they represent and prove that South American football can compete with Europe best.
When asked about his pick to win the title, he didn’t hesitate: Atletico Madrid.

Who your favorite to win the tournament?
“They just won the Champions League, so all eyes are on them, with a bit of added pressure. The first game will be a great match, nothing less than against PSG. As an Atletico fan, of course I want Atletico Madrid to win.”
Although PSG arrives as the reigning European champion, Maxi Rodríguez sees the Colchoneros as having a better chance to go all the way and claim glory.
Like Maxi, millions of fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the opening whistle. The moment is near, and we’ll soon witness the talent, excitement, and passion of every team in this thrilling edition of the Club World Cup.
