Luis Enrique Talks About the Opportunity to Win the Club World Cup After Champions League Triumph
Luis Enrique shared why the new Club World Cup is a historic opportunity for Paris Saint-Germain, and how the team is preparing to win it after claiming the Champions League title.
A Global Tournament to Make History
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique expressed his excitement about taking part in the new Club World Cup, which for the first time will bring together 32 clubs from around the world. The Spanish coach emphasized the symbolic importance of the competition as a true celebration of global football. “It’s exciting because for the first time, we’ll find out who the best team in the world is. This tournament could become a worldwide reference,” he said.
Luis Enrique, who has already played in World Cups as a player and managed Spain in others, now takes on the challenge from the club level. “We’ll be representing France through PSG, and doing it from a club perspective makes it even more attractive,” he added.
He also acknowledged the global impact of the tournament: “Every time we’ve traveled to Asia or America, we’ve felt the love from fans who may have never been to Paris, but still support the club with passion. That’s very rewarding.”
Favorites, Preparation, and the Key: Rest
According to the Spanish coach, European clubs have an edge due to the concentration of talent. “We have the best of Europe, but also of America, Africa, and Asia. It’s only logical to assume European clubs are closer to winning it.” Still, he warned that the knockout format can always lead to surprises.
Aware of the demanding schedule, Luis Enrique emphasized that physical and mental recovery will be crucial: “After the holidays, we were the European team that gave the most rest — 9 or 10 days. That boosts motivation when the players return to training,” he noted.
The goal is clear: keep improving. “Last season we won the Champions League, the league, the cup, and the super cup. This season, we’re even better. That shows the team’s growth,” he stated.
Finally, Luis Enrique invited neutral fans to get behind the team: “We want to attract not just existing PSG supporters, but anyone who enjoys quality football. Just like in the NBA, when you see a team that plays beautifully, you get hooked. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
