Inter Miami chasing the miracle!

Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami will face each other this Sunday in a high-stakes round of 16 match at the FIFA Club World Cup, a showdown loaded with emotions, memorable reunions, and unsettled scores. The match will take place at the impressive Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, which holds 71,000 fans, where both teams will fight for a place in the quarterfinals.

The Parisians arrive as European champions, having shown solid form in the group stage with a 4-0 thrashing of Atlético de Madrid, a 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders, and a narrow 0-1 loss to Botafogo. On the other side, Javier Mascherano’s team has already exceeded expectations by becoming the only MLS side to reach the round of 16 after defeating Porto 2-1 and drawing against Palmeiras (2-2) and Al-Ahly (0-0).

The preview: Reunions and tension in PSG vs Inter Miami

One of the main storylines will be the reunion between Luis Enrique and several of his former stars from the legendary Barcelona team: Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Mascherano, now on the sidelines as coach. Together, under the Spanish manager, they won the treble in 2015. Since then, Luis Enrique hasn’t crossed paths with many of them, and his relationship with some—like Alba—ended on rocky terms.

Another key figure will be Ousmane Dembélé, who could make his tournament debut after recovering from injury. The French winger, a star signing for PSG and Ballon d'Or candidate, arrived at Barcelona just after Luis Enrique’s departure and shared the dressing room with several current Inter Miami players. His stint in Barcelona was underwhelming, but now he seeks redemption at the top level with PSG.

And of course, there’s Messi’s reunion with his former Parisian club. 

Will there be an upset in Atlanta?

While PSG are clear favorites, Mascherano’s team won’t go down easily. “We want to go out there and compete and show that we’re a serious team,” said the Argentine coach. PSG’s pace and offensive firepower could make the difference, but Inter Miami have the experience and pride to fight back.

The winner of this match will remain in Atlanta to face the victor of the Bayern Munich vs Flamengo quarterfinal.
