Jürgen Klopp Slams Club World Cup: “The Worst Idea Ever Implemented in Soccer”
The new format of the FIFA Club World Cup has sparked mixed reactions. While some celebrate the tournament’s expansion, others firmly reject it. Among the harshest critics is Jürgen Klopp. In an interview with German outlet Die Welt, the former Liverpool manager didn't hold back, describing the competition as “the worst idea ever implemented in football.”

Klopp made his disapproval clear, also targeting those he believes are making decisions without a true connection to the game. “There are people who have never been involved in the day-to-day business of football and are now coming up with ideas,” the German coach stated.
Concerns Over Physical Strain
Beyond his rejection of the format, Klopp voiced concern over the potential physical toll the tournament could take on players. With an already congested schedule, he warned about a looming injury crisis: “It’s too many games. I fear that next season we will see injuries like never before. If not then, they’ll come during or after the Club World Cup,” he cautioned.
He also criticized the lack of adequate rest for players: “There’s no real recovery for those involved, neither physically nor mentally,” he added.
A Familiar Criticism
This isn't the first time Klopp has spoken out against the Club World Cup. He had previously complained about the absence of a proper break after the season ends. “It’s a pointless competition. Whoever wins it will be the worst winner of all time because they’ll have played all summer and then gone straight back into the league,” he concluded.
