Is He Saying Goodbye to Atlético de Madrid? Rodrigo de Paul Reportedly on Galatasaray’s Radar
Rodrigo De Paul may be living his final days as an Atlético de Madrid player. According to reports from Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV, the Colchoneros are open to listening to offers for the Argentine midfielder, with Galatasaray emerging as one of the leading contenders to secure his signing.
Despite being under contract and having played 53 official matches last season—scoring 3 goals and providing 10 assists—rumors suggest that a change of scenery could be imminent. While De Paul’s preference is to remain with Atlético at least until the 2026 World Cup, his recent dip in form and the club’s plans for restructuring might push him toward an exit.
A Disappointing Season at Atlético
Atlético de Madrid’s campaign at the FIFA Club World Cup was a reflection of the issues that have plagued the team throughout the season. Knocked out in the group stage after defeats to Botafogo and Paris Saint-Germain, Diego Simeone’s side looked uninspired and unconvincing across all areas.
One of the players most heavily criticized was De Paul, who failed to reach the high level of performance he had shown between November and March. During the international tournament, the Argentine midfielder failed to provide a single assist, barely threatened the goal, and had little to no offensive impact.
Simeone’s tactical choices—such as leaving Koke out, the inefficiency of Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sorloth, and the team’s defensive fragility—only made matters worse. Despite having top-quality players like Antoine Griezmann, the team couldn't rise to the occasion.
Now, with their elimination confirmed, Atlético's board may look to refresh the midfield, and De Paul appears to be one of the most likely players to depart.
Galatasaray is closely monitoring the situation and has reportedly expressed interest. However, any potential transfer will depend on whether both sides can reach an agreement, particularly regarding financial terms.
Is this the end of Rodrigo De Paul’s journey with Atlético de Madrid? Only the summer transfer window will tell. In the meantime, Istanbul could be waiting with open arms.
