Guardiola Aims to Save City Season with Club World Cup Glory
The countdown to the Club World Cup has begun, and Pep Guardiola is clear: the tournament presents a perfect opportunity to cap off the season with another title for Manchester City.

In an interview with FIFA, the Spanish manager spoke about his role at the English club and his ambitions to lift yet another trophy with the ‘Cityzens’.
Guardiola didn’t hide his excitement about the possibility of winning the tournament this summer
“I can’t deny it would be great. However, there are 31 other clubs aiming for the trophy. I never start with the idea that we’re going to win it, because it’s about taking it one game at a time,” said the City boss.
Regarding the new format of the competition, he added:
“For me, it’s an honor. It also means that in recent seasons, we’ve done a great job in the Champions League and the domestic championship. It’s a new competition, and I’m looking forward to being part of it.”
The former Barcelona coach also shared his thoughts on facing teams from around the world:
“In the Club World Cup we’ll play against teams from Oceania, Asia, South America, and so on, each with different footballing philosophies, player types, and cultures. I see that as something very positive.”
Cruyff, Guardiola Mentor
Guardiola reflected on his early days as a coach and emphasized the influence of one key figure: Johan Cruyff.
“The influence I received from my coaches shaped the way I see the game. Above all, the teachings of my mentor, Johan Cruyff, led me to understand football in a very specific way. I’m sure that without Cruyff in my playing career, it would have been difficult for me to become a coach.”
Messi, Foden, and the Mental Edge
Throughout his career, Guardiola has coached some of football’s biggest stars, including Lionel Messi and Phil Foden. When asked what sets these talents apart at such a young age, he was emphatic:
“Their mentality. Their skill is never in doubt they’re always going to have it. But what really sets them apart is their mindset and drive. The truth is, the greatest players have exceptional motivation.”
With the Club World Cup on the horizon, Guardiola prepares for what could be the season final major challenge. City is looking to finish on a high, and the Spanish tactician is determined to make history once again.
