Gianni Infantino Backs Rayados de Monterrey Ahead of Their Match Against Borussia Dortmund at the Club World Cup 2025
Rayados de Monterrey continue to make history at the 2025 Club World Cup, not only for their outstanding performance in the group stage, but also for the international recognition they are generating. FIFA president Gianni Infantino, for example, sent an emotional message of support to the Monterrey team ahead of their clash with Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 of the competition.
The Mexican team managed to advance from a tough group that it shared with Inter Milan, River Plate and Urawa Reds, an achievement that has caught the attention of world soccer's top brass. Monterrey is now preparing to face the historic German club at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, home of the Atlanta Falcons, next Tuesday, July 1.
Infantino: "Let's go Rayados! Be player number 12".
During an interview with TUDN, the FIFA president praised the performance of the team coached by Domènec Torrent and called on the albiazul fans to make their support felt on U.S. soil.
"Let's go Rayados! That's the message we want to give to all Monterrey fans. Great team from Mexico. Qualifying for the round of 16 is already a success, but the Club World Cup starts now, and that's the most important thing," said Infantino.
The leader also highlighted the recognition that Monterrey's fans have worldwide:
"We know the fans Monterrey have, they are famous worldwide. I'm sure they will show it here in the United States. We expect thousands and thousands of Monterrey fans to come and support their team, to be player number 12," he added.
A historic date for Mexican soccer
Rayados qualification to the round of 16 is not only a significant achievement for the institution, but also a milestone for club soccer in Mexico. Gianni Infantino endorsement not only validates the club work, but also reflects the global impact of its performance in the tournament.
The match against Borussia Dortmund promises to be one of the most attractive of the tournament. The German team, one of the most renowned clubs in Europe, will be looking to impose its hierarchy, but will face a Monterrey team that has proven to be up to the challenge of the big stages.
Can Monterrey continue to make history?
With their morale high, the backing of their fans and the recognition of FIFA, Monterrey will be looking to make a new mark at the Club World Cup. The question is in the air: will the Mexican team be able to stop the German giants and continue to make history?
