Gallardo Plans To Use Mastantuono in Transfer Blow To Real Madrid
The young talent from River Plate, already signed by Real Madrid, will take part in the FIFA Club World Cup if physically ready, according to coach Marcelo Gallardo—a situation causing concern in Madrid.
Gallardo Confirms Mastantuono’s Role at River Despite Madrid Deal
While Real Madrid prepares for its Club World Cup debut against Al Hilal, much of the attention from fans is also focused on Franco Mastantuono, the 17-year-old wonderkid already signed by the Spanish giants. The midfielder will join Madrid in August but is still competing in the tournament with River Plate.
Speaking ahead of River Plate’s match against Urawa Red Diamonds in Seattle, coach Marcelo Gallardo addressed Mastantuono’s status: “If Mastantuono is fit, he will play,” he stated bluntly, raising concerns among Madridistas about potential injuries before the player officially arrives in Spain.
Madridistas Holding Their Breath
The €45 million deal for Mastantuono is one of Real Madrid’s biggest bets for the future, and the Club World Cup could be the final showcase for the young star in the River Plate shirt. With physical demands high in the tournament, any injury could jeopardize his long-term availability.
Coach Gallardo did not hide his intention to use the player: “He’s with us, he wants to play. If he’s in good shape, he’ll be on the pitch,” he said during a press conference, showing no plans to shield him despite Madrid’s investment.
Final Stretch Before Moving to Madrid
Though Mastantuono is aware of his next destination, those close to the player insist he is fully focused on River Plate. “He’s comfortable, supported by his teammates, and eager to help us compete,” said Gallardo.
This Tuesday, Mastantuono will feature in what could be one of his last appearances for the Argentine club. The match against Urawa Red Diamonds marks the start of River Plate’s campaign in the competition, while Real Madrid kicks off its journey on Wednesday.
