A lighthearted football chat with Bobo
Christian, thanks for your time. One question: I remember your best goal was against Ajax with Atlético Madrid, but what’s your favorite goal from your career? Can you give us a top 3?
— I don’t really remember my goals haha. Maybe in Madrid, I think I scored 3 or 4 nice ones there. Some with Inter too.
You’ve played for a lot of clubs, but I know part of your heart is in Madrid. How do you split your footballing heart?
— Well, I only spent one year in Madrid. I should’ve stayed longer. Atlético was a great club with amazing fans and a beautiful stadium, but I was a bit crazy.
Why do you say “crazy”?
— I don’t know, I don’t know. I’m not that guy anymore. But I had a lot of fun in Madrid. I should’ve stayed 3 or 4 more years at Atlético.
His Club World Cup favorites
Who do you think will win the Club World Cup?
— I’m not sure.
Can you name three picks?
— PSG, because they won the Champions League. Boca Juniors.
Boca Juniors?!
— I like Boca Juniors.
You think they can win it?
— I don’t know, they’re my favorite team in Argentina. And I’ll also say Chelsea FC.
Have you been to La Bombonera?
— Yes, I went to watch the Superclásico, Boca vs River.
In the hardcore fan section?
— No, not there. But the stadium is absolutely insane.
It’s totally different, right?
— Yeah, they’re crazier than me.
Crazier than Juve or Inter fans?
— I’ve never seen anything like La Bombonera. It’s unbelievable.
You’ve stepped up your padel game — you're pretty good.
— I’ve been playing for five years now. I used to play tennis too. It’s fun, lots of adrenaline, and we play against old teammates — it’s great.
What’s it like playing with President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi?
— The president is number one. He plays very, very well. Great hands. He’s fantastic — number one.
You watched PSG fight for years to win the Champions League and now they finally did it. What’s your take?
— I think the president found the perfect coach (Luis Enrique) and signed some great young players. Very strong, very talented.
Investing in top young players to build a team for 5, 6, 7 years…
— Yeah, with a fantastic midfield, great structure, and I think in the next 5 to 8 years PSG will win more Champions Leagues. That’s what I believe.
Thanks, Christian.
— Thanks to you.
With this exclusive interview, Christian Vieri makes it clear that while the 2025 Club World Cup will be full of tough contenders, his picks are two clubs he truly admires and feels passionate about: Luis Enrique’s PSG, built on a promising new generation, and Boca Juniors, whose mystique and unmatched fanbase might just spark the biggest surprise of the tournament.
