Bayern Munich Goes for Nico Williams and Seeks to Snatch Him Away From Barcelona
Bayern Munich hasn’t given up hope of signing Nico Williams (22), despite the growing belief that the Athletic Club winger is on the verge of joining FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are reportedly ready to pay the $67 million release clause after a key meeting last week between sporting director Deco and Félix Tainta, the agent of the younger Williams brother.

Bayern Looking to Frustrate Barcelona Plans
Although there is already a near complete agreement between Barça and Nico Williams pending a few minor administrative details the club is still working to reduce its wage bill in order to register the player with LaLiga. While the path seems clear toward the Spotify Camp Nou, Bayern are preparing one last desperate attempt to snatch the signing from Barcelona.
Nico a Top Priority for Munich
According to Sport1, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl left the club delegation at the Club World Cup to return to Munich and hold meetings with Uli Hoeness, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and other board members. The purpose of the trip is to make progress on the club plans for next season. Sky Sport Germany added that Bayern could make an improved offer to Nico Williams to emphasize that he’s a top priority and to be ready in case Barcelona fails to finalize the deal.
No Official Comment, But Clear Intentions
After news broke about Max Eberl return to Munich, Bayern sporting director Christopher Freund spoke to DAZN following the club’s 2–1 win over Boca Juniors. He said the trip was not due to “any particular reason,” but acknowledged that“ there are some ongoing conversations, it’s within European time zones, and we believe it’s a good opportunity right now.” When asked about Bayern interest in Nico Williams, Freund responded, “We’re not commenting on rumors at the moment,” but added, “We want to keep moving forward with our plans to strengthen the squad.”
Barcelona Hoping for Payment Flexibility
Barcelona insists they won’t have any issues paying for Nico Williams whose fee could reach $71 million once adjusted for inflation if there’s no room for negotiation with Athletic Club. However, the Blaugrana are hoping the Basque side softens their stance and allows a structured, installment-based payment instead of an upfront fee. Given the tense relationship between the two clubs, that scenario appears unlikely for now.
A Fierce Battle for One of Spain Brightest Talents
Bayern Munich is clearly unwilling to back down in the race for one of European football most exciting prospects. The German powerhouse is ready to go all-in for Nico Williams. Meanwhile, Barcelona will have to redouble their efforts, even if their financial limitations make the operation increasingly difficult.
