Are Clues Emerging About Cristiano Ronaldo’s Next Move? Botafogo Responds to Rumors Ahead of the Club World Cup
The Brazilian club’s coach reacts to speculation linking the Al-Nassr star with a potential move before the international tournament.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s future may be headed in a surprising direction. With his contract at Al-Nassr set to expire soon, the Portuguese icon is now being linked with a possible move to Botafogo, one of four Brazilian teams qualified for the upcoming 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.
A Tempting Offer From Brazil
According to Marca, Ronaldo has received a “significant offer” from a Brazilian club that includes the opportunity to take part in the Club World Cup. The move could be enticing for the 40-year-old, who has yet to win a trophy in Saudi Arabia and recently saw Al-Nassr miss out on qualification for the upcoming AFC Champions League Elite.
The club in question appears to be Botafogo, set to compete in the global tournament alongside Fluminense, Flamengo, and Palmeiras. The rumors reached Botafogo head coach Renato Pavia, who was asked directly about the potential transfer during a press conference.
Botafogo’s Coach Reacts
Pavia didn’t confirm or deny the speculation but responded with humor and admiration: “Christmas is in December… But if he came, you can’t say no to a star like that. I don’t know anything, I’m just answering the question.” He went on to highlight what Cristiano could bring to the squad: “Even at his age, he’s still a goal machine. In a team that creates chance after chance, he’d be a great fit.”
The coach also hinted that the question might be better directed at Botafogo’s American owner, John Textor: “That question needs to be asked in another language, not Portuguese,” he joked, leaving the door open to what would be a blockbuster signing.
Is Ronaldo’s Time in Saudi Arabia Coming to an End?
Cristiano Ronaldo’s current deal with Al-Nassr ends in late June, and there’s been no indication of a contract renewal. After a trophyless run in the Saudi Pro League, the idea of closing out his legendary career with a South American team in a global tournament might be gaining appeal.
Could Cristiano become Brazilian football’s next major headline? For now, the story is just beginning.
