(VIDEO) All Goals From Seattle Sounders vs Atlético de Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup
Atlético de Madrid is gearing up for a unique challenge this Thursday in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, facing off against the Seattle Sounders, the only team playing at home in their own stadium – the impressive Lumen Field. With a capacity of over 69,000 spectators, the venue located in the heart of Seattle promises an electric atmosphere, fueled by a fanbase that made its presence felt well before kickoff.
The city turns neon green
By midday, hundreds of Seattle Sounders fans gathered around the stadium, dressed in the club’s iconic Rave Green kit with navy blue accents. Bars, restaurants, and street vendors were filled with jerseys, scarves, and flags in a true show of loyalty.
Amid the sea of green, a few Atlético de Madrid supporters stood out — having traveled from Spain to the northwest corner of the U.S., near the Canadian border, to support their team on this new international adventure.
Surprising lineups from both sides
Coach Diego Simeone has made several changes from the lineup that started against Paris Saint-Germain. The most notable decision is benching Antoine Griezmann, who hasn’t scored in 17 matches. In his place, Argentine manager Simeone has chosen Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth, who will be joined by Julián Álvarez and Giuliano Simeone in the attacking trio.

Atlético’s starting XI: Jan Oblak; Marcos Llorente, Robin Le Normand, José María Giménez, Javi Galán; Rodrigo De Paul, Koke, Pablo Barrios; Giuliano Simeone, Julián Álvarez, and Alexander Sørloth.
On the other side, Brian Schmetzer, head coach of the Seattle Sounders, has also made five changes from the squad that faced Botafogo. Notably, Argentine winger Pedro de la Vega gets the start on the right flank, and only Jackson Ragen remains in the defensive line.
Seattle’s lineup: Stefan Frei; Kalani Kossa-Rienzi, Jackson Ragen, Jonathan Bell, Reed Baker-Whiting; Cristian Roldán, Obdel Vargas; Albert Rusnak, Pedro de la Vega, Paul Rothrock; Daniel Musovski.
Everything is set for a thrilling clash, where the home-field advantage could play a major role — but history will be on the Spanish side. Can Atlético de Madrid prevail on hostile ground?
